The Nursing Assistant aids professional and technical nursing personnel primarily by accomplishing a variety of duties and procedures which are directly related to patient care. Primary duties include taking and recording vital signs, assisting patients with hygiene and elimination, and maintaining a clean and safe unit environment. Will assist with stocking unit supplies, operating hospital equipment as directed, performing routine clerical tasks, and assisting with other related duties as assigned.

PNT_CARE Accurately measures and records vital signs. Recognizes critical deviations in the patient's condition, takes appropriate action and accurately documents all activities as required
PNT_CARE Assists with patient care activities as directed by the RN, including specimen collection, turning & positioning, and patient transportation
PNT_CARE Assists patient with hygiene, elimination, routine skin care, comfort measures and other Activities of Daily Living (ADL), in consideration of patient age, gender, culture and stated preferences, maintaining patient privacy and respect at all times. Assumes responsibility for maintaining a clean & safe environment.
CLIN_Actively engages in caring behaviors, taking conscious ownership for work and takes a proactive, deliberate, and thoughtful actions regarding work activities. Demonstrates appropriate use of independent judgement and decision making
PNT_CARE Receives and accurately inventories patient belongings and sends to Patient Property when appropriate. Performs Point of Care Testing (POCT) Quality Controls per standards as required

Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English
Must be Certified Nurses Assist. or enrolled in accredited nursing prog. with completion of at least 1 clinical semester. Completed course to include a min. of: physical assessments, therapeutic communication, comfort care, ADL, vital signs & fluid mgt
Demonstrated patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting
Basic Life Support
Understanding of basic medical terminology
Must be able to work variable shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
Nursing Assistants hired prior to May 2010 who did not possess certification as a Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) are not required to obtain it at this time
